Urban Planning for the Future Circa. 1925

by Matt Forcey

It is an interesting concept and still holds valid as a potential prophecy some 85 years later. Although so many aspects of our modern society are unassuming miracles of technology (Facebook, satnav, hedge funds) the more visually memorable things like flying cars, metropolis stacks and Jean-Paul Gaultier police uniforms are what I still dream of. The world of Back to the Future II is an indelible print on my young filmic soul and so I can’t help but be seduced by the thought that these dreams have been floating in the global consciousness for so long. How long before Porsche release the Flying Carerra Hydrogen 1? They’ve already considered production of an electric supercar and as of next year will be in the same stable as ‘Vorsprung Durch Technik’.

As for the vertical cities look no further than the looming cranes that still dominate London’s skyline from the Thames and as far as those uniforms go; don’t get arrested for drunk and disorderly on the Champs-Élysées!

  1. Very cool poster, but I wouldn’t want to live in this city. We need to control our population growth before…it’s too late.
